Illustrators

Trudy Smoke is a retired professor of linguistics and rhetoric at Hunter College, CUNY.

She is the illustrator of Field Guide to the Street Trees of New York City, and Field Guide to the Neighborhood Birds of New York City.


Beth Bergman is a photographer for the Metropolitan Opera Company whose passion is photographing birds.

Her photographs have appeared in numerous publications, including the New York Times, New York Magazine, Opera News, and Paris Match.


Mark Klinger is a scientific illustrator for  the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and creates images for research publications, lectures, media and international exhibits.

He illustrated Field Guide to the Natural World of New York City, and Field Guide to the Natural World of Washington, D.C.


JessicaMaffia is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in New York City. In reverence and mourning, she honors the natural world of the city and its surroundings through repetitive, meditative processes. Her work has been exhibited throughout the US and is currently in the Flat Files of Pierogi Gallery. Maffia is the recipient of numerous artist residency fellowships including at the Albee Foundation and the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, as well as two grants from the Hell's Kitchen Foundation. She created a permanent mural installation for the National Audubon Society’s Audubon Mural Project, installed a NYC Percent for Art permanent installation in a new public school, and exhibited three of her “Soil Beings” at Smack Mellon. She is currently a BeTheMuseum fellow and looks forward to upcoming exhibitions at Unison Arts and the Garner Arts Center.
